Nicole Mihalopoulos

Nicole Mihalopoulos is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine, with additional appointments as Adjunct Professor of Internal Medicine and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Nutrition & Integrative Physiology. Her academic career at the University of Utah spans nearly two decades, progressing from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor and ultimately to Professor in Pediatrics, with continuous service since 2005.

Dr. Mihalopoulos's research focuses on adolescent health with particular emphasis on transgender and gender diverse youth, childhood obesity, metabolic disorders, and cardiovascular health in children. Her work explores the complex interplay between biological, psychological, and social factors affecting adolescent health outcomes, with significant contributions to understanding health disparities among vulnerable pediatric populations.

Her publication record demonstrates a strong commitment to advancing knowledge in transgender adolescent health, including studies on hormone therapy effects on cardiovascular risk and mental health outcomes. She has also made important contributions to understanding childhood obesity trajectories, early-life factors influencing pubertal development, and the impact of environmental exposures on child health through the NIH ECHO program.

Dr. Mihalopoulos has secured multiple research grants from organizations including NIH, PRA INTERNATIONAL, ICON CLINICAL RESEARCH, and various public health entities. Her ongoing projects reflect her dedication to translating research into improved health outcomes for children and adolescents.

She serves on the Salt Lake City School District Wellness Committee and has been a National Children's Study Core Team Member since 2005, demonstrating her commitment to community engagement and public health initiatives that address childhood obesity and promote adolescent wellness.
