Dr Nicole Matthews is an Associate Professor in the Department of Media, Music, Communication and Cultural Studies at Macquarie University, Sydney. Her research focuses on disability and Deaf studies, digital technologies, and media's role in social justice. She holds a PhD from Griffith University and has taught at Liverpool John Moores University (UK). She is affiliated with the Hearing Research Centre and has collaborated on projects involving digital hearing aids, Deaf storytelling, and dementia care education.

Her funded projects include collaborations with the NSW Deaf Society, Dementia Training Study Centre, and HEARing CRC. She has edited journals like Somatechnics and contributed to policy debates on terms like 'retard'.
