Nicole M. Grosland is the Associate Dean for Academic Programs at the University of Iowa's College of Engineering and holds the title of College of Engineering Distinguished Professor in Biomedical Engineering. She is also a Professor in Orthopedics and Rehabilitation and a Researcher at the Iowa Institute for Biomedical Imaging. Her academic career at the University of Iowa began in 2001.
Dr. Grosland's research focuses on orthopaedic biomechanics and finite element methods, with specialties in spinal biomechanics, total joint arthroplasty, and patient-specific model development. She leads efforts in advancing computational tools for anatomical finite element modeling, such as the IA-FEMesh software. Her work bridges engineering and clinical applications, addressing challenges in surgical instrumentation and implant design.
Her professional memberships include the Orthopaedic Research Society, American Society of Biomechanics, and Biomedical Engineering Society. She actively contributes to academic leadership through roles in the Engineering Student Success Team and the College's strategic initiatives.
Dr. Grosland's educational background includes a B.S.E. (1994) and Ph.D. (1998) in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Iowa. Her research has been published extensively, with a focus on spinal instrumentation, joint replacement biomechanics, and finite element methodologies.
