Dane Turner

Dane Turner is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Macquarie Medical School's Centre for Workforce Futures. She specializes in orthopaedic biomechanics and musculoskeletal modelling, collaborating with clinical partners to assess surgical outcomes and improve orthopaedic implant design.

• Education: PhD in Biomedical Engineering (2007), BE and M.Biomed.E in Mechanical Engineering (2003) from the University of New South Wales.

Her research involves advanced methodologies like finite element modelling, gait analysis, fluoroscopic imaging, and mechanical testing to study joint arthroplasty and surgical reconstruction. Current projects include the use of EOS x-ray imaging for joint motion analysis and computational models for ligament strain evaluation.

Key publication themes include biomechanics of knee and hip implants, ACL reconstruction techniques, polymethylmethacrylate in spinal fixation, and systematic reviews of knee joint models.

She has supervised numerous PhD and Master’s candidates, including Sara Farshidfar, Hugo Wiggins, and Mélody Labrune, and previously mentored Ehsan Askari, Hamed Shahidian, and Joyce El Haddad.

Dr. Turner actively contributes to the academic community as Treasurer of the Australia New Zealand Orthopaedic Research Society (ANZORS) and Associate Editor for the Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing journal.
