Professor Nicole Lindstrom is a Professor in the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of York. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Syracuse University, and prior academic roles at Central European University and the New School for Social Research. Her research focuses on transnational actors and political-economic change in the European Union, particularly Brexit's impact, post-socialist transitions, and industrial policy. She has held visiting positions at the University of Warwick and The New School.
Her key publications include Europe and the British Left (2024), analyzing the British Left’s historical engagement with Europe, and studies on EU state aid rules and competition policy. Lindstrom is Associate Editor of Political Studies and has contributed to UK policy debates on Brexit and poverty. She advises PhD candidates in EU politics, industrial policy, and comparative political economy.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on the European Union, global political economy, and public policy. Lindstrom has served in senior department roles at York, including Deputy Head of Department and Chair of Teaching Committee. Her external activities include roles as an expert reviewer for the European Commission and regular contributions to the UK in a Changing Europe initiative.
