Dr. Nicole K. Konopka is a part-time Lecturer and researcher at the Department of English and American Studies, University of Bamberg. She specializes in 19th–20th-century North American literature, transatlantic migration studies, and transculturalism, with a focus on madness, monstrosity, and outsider perspectives in literary and visual texts.
- PhD (2011, University of Rostock): Epistolary Shapeshifters, analyzing narrative strategies in 19th-century German-American immigrant letters.
- Master’s Degrees in British and American Studies (2004) and Art History (2005), both from University of Greifswald.
Her research explores transatlantic migration narratives, epistolary literature, and ethical dimensions in speculative fiction. She co-edited BildBewegung. Images of Migration – Migration of Images (2009) and has published essays on topics like teaching the American Civil War in Germany and cultural representations of monstrosity.
Recent lectures include discussions on African American radio consumer culture, ecocriticism in climate fiction, and queer performance in transnational spaces. She also organizes Bamberg Buddies, a program connecting local high schools with North American guest students.
