Nicole Kirstin Jost-Rösch serves as a Lecturer and Research Associate in the Department of Musicology at the University of Basel, working under Professor Schmidt. She has been the program coordinator at the Basel Musicological Seminary since July 2016, based at Petersgraben 27, 4051 Basel, Switzerland.
Her academic journey began with teaching studies at the Freiburg University of Education. From 2004, she pursued interdisciplinary studies in musicology, modern German literature, and general linguistics with a focus on phonetics at both Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and the University of Basel, earning her Master of Arts in 2009. Since 2010, she has been working toward her doctorate at the University of Basel.
Dr. Jost-Rösch's research spans multiple humanities disciplines with special emphasis on modern music history. Her work on the SNSF project examining Alban Berg as a musical narrator (2012-2015) demonstrates expertise in 20th century classical music composition and analysis. Her academic background in German literature and phonetics creates a multidisciplinary approach to musical scholarship, particularly in narrative structures within compositions.
Her professional trajectory includes serving as a substitute assistant in modern music history (2010-2012), followed by research on the Alban Berg project while teaching regularly. As program coordinator since 2016, she oversees academic programming within one of Europe's well-regarded musicology departments, known for its extensive library resources particularly strong in early music history up to the 18th century and ethnomusicology.
Within the department's educational framework, Dr. Jost-Rösch contributes to both bachelor's and master's programs, helping students develop techniques for academic work, systematic classification of information, and critical examination of musical phenomena through analysis, interpretation, and historical contextualization.
