Nicole Esquibel, MFA, is an Associate Professor at Avila University and Chair of the School of Visual and Communication Arts. A graduate of the University of Iowa’s MFA in Film and Video Production, she is an award-winning filmmaker, writer, and poet whose work intersects visual arts, storytelling, and social justice.

Her research focuses on documentary filmmaking, cultural identity, and border studies. She has collaborated with filmmakers on documentaries for PBS, American Masters, and international TV networks, with recent work exploring immersive cinema and the history of Mexican-American lynching.
Selected screenings and exhibitions include collaborations with The Playground Ensemble and composer Conrad Kehn. She has served on boards such as Nuestra Herencia (Kansas City Museum) and the Rime Center for Tibetan and Buddhist Studies.
