Nicole Dufalla is a Senior Lecturer in the First Year Engineering Center at the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science, with a courtesy appointment in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. She holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Cornell University and an M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Her expertise spans pavement structures, materials science, and transportation infrastructure, informed by over a decade of field and laboratory-based research in civil engineering.
Dr. Dufalla currently chairs the Transportation Research Board’s Standing Committee on the Properties of Concrete, reflecting her leadership in advancing concrete material science. Prior to her academic roles, she worked as a professional engineer on federal and state-level pavement projects and taught Construction Management at Colorado State University. Her teaching focuses on mentoring first-year engineering students, leveraging her industry experience in technical writing and consulting.
Her research interests emphasize sustainable infrastructure materials and transportation systems, bridging academic rigor with practical engineering challenges.
