Nicolay V Tsarevsky is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Southern Methodist University (SMU), where he has held roles since 2010. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University (2005) and an M.S. in Theoretical Chemistry from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria (1999). Before joining SMU, he served as Visiting Assistant Professor at Carnegie Mellon (2005-2007) and Chief Science Officer at ATRP Solutions, Inc. (2007-2010).
His research focuses on polymer synthesis, particularly controlled radical polymerization techniques such as ATRP (Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization), degradable and biodegradable materials, and biomedical applications including drug delivery and imaging. Key projects involve creating polymers with precise architectures and functionalities, using hypervalent iodine compounds for advanced functionalization.
- Awards: NSF CAREER Award (2016), IUPAC Young Observer Fellowship (2015), Dean's Research Council Grant (2014)
- Grants: ACS Petroleum Research Fund (2011)
His lab has developed novel methods for synthesizing branched polymers, including those responsive to environmental stimuli. Research outputs span over 50 publications, emphasizing kinetic studies, polymer degradation pathways, and applications in nanotechnology and biomaterials.
