Nicolas Martin-Breteau is a Lecturer in American history and civilization at the University of Lille and a researcher at the Center for Administrative, Political, and Social Studies and Research (CERAPS). He serves as director of the Erasmus Mundus Master's program MITRA (Transnational Migrations) and coordinator of the ANR TACTICS program (2023-2027) on antiracism history. With a decade of high school teaching experience in Paris suburbs (2004-2014), he will become a visiting scholar at New York University (NYU) in April 2025.
His research spans US History, African American History, and critical race studies, focusing on topics like:

- W.E.B. Du Bois' Sociological Legacy
- Symbolic Struggles and Self-Nomination
