Nicolas Altemose

Nicolas Altemose is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he leads research on centromere structure and function critical for chromosome segregation during cell division.

His lab pioneers computational genomics and single-molecule sequencing to decode highly repetitive centromeric DNA regions, investigating protein distributions, epigenetic modifications, and mechanisms linking centromere dysfunction to chromosomal abnormalities, infertility, and cancer. This work bridges molecular biology with advanced genomic technologies to address historically intractable genomic regions.
