Nicolai Petkov is a Professor in the Department of Computing Science at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Science and Engineering. He leads research in computer vision, image processing, and computational neuroscience, with a focus on biologically inspired algorithms. His work bridges theoretical neuroscience and practical computer vision applications.
His research interests span computer vision, image processing, pattern recognition, computational neuroscience, and biologically inspired computing. Petkov has made significant contributions to contour detection, texture analysis, and visual perception modeling, developing algorithms inspired by the human visual cortex. His work on B-COSFIRE filters has become influential in the field of biologically inspired computer vision.
