Nicola Watts serves as Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing at Kingston University's School of Nursing, Allied and Public Health, having joined the institution in 2020 and earned promotion in 2023. Her role integrates extensive clinical expertise from eight years working in emergency departments across Surrey, where she progressed from Staff Nurse to Sister position, with academic responsibilities including link lecturing, personal tutoring, and module leadership for both pre-registration and registered nursing students.
Her educational qualifications include a BSc (Hons) in Adult Nursing from Kingston University (2010), a Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Education, and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Since October 2023, she has pursued a Masters of Research (MRes) in Education to advance her pedagogical expertise.
Professional interests center on adult nursing education with specialized focus on emergency department practice and acute care assessment. These stem directly from her clinical background and current teaching responsibilities, particularly her development of curricula for the Acute Assessment module for pre-registration students and the Emergency Practice module for registered nurses in emergency departments.
Her sole recognized professional achievement is Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), acknowledging excellence in teaching and learning support within higher education.
Student supervision occurs through personal tutoring and module leadership, with significant emphasis on clinical practice support. She designs learning materials, facilitates teaching sessions, and provides pastoral care for nursing students, while also enabling professional development for registered nurses working in emergency settings through specialized coursework.
