Nicola Petrosillo is a Full Professor and Director of the Clinical and Research Infectious Disease Department at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases “Lazzaro Spallanzani” in Rome. He also serves as a Lecturer at the Catholic University of Zagreb, Croatia, and is a researcher at the University Medical Center of Groningen University, The Netherlands. His academic roles include past professorships at La Sapienza and Tor Vergata Universities, and a professorship of Hygiene at UniCamillus.
- Education: MD (1977), Specializations in Infectious Diseases (1981), Internal Medicine (1985), and Civil Protection (1986).
Research interests focus on emerging infections, severe healthcare-acquired infections, systemic infections, and multidrug-resistant organisms. He co-leads the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) Emerging Infection Taskforce and chairs ESCMID’s International Affairs SubCommittee. He previously served as President of SIMPIOS (Italian Multidisciplinary Society for Infection Control) and as a WHO consultant during the 2014 Ebola epidemic in Nigeria.
Editor-in-Chief of Infectious Disease Reports, he has authored 332 peer-reviewed articles (H-index 46, 9,159 citations) and contributed to numerous book chapters. His professional affiliations include the European Board of Infectious Diseases (UEMS) and leadership in infection control committees.
