Dr Nicola Lawrence-Thomas is a Lecturer in Work Psychology at the Institute of Work Psychology (IWP) within the Sheffield University Management School (University of Sheffield). Her research focuses on intersections of reproductive health, emotions, neurodiversity, and technology in workplace contexts. She holds a PhD from the Technical University of Denmark, alongside qualifications from the University of Leeds and Auckland University of Technology.
Her key research interests include:
- Infertility and abortion experiences at work
- Neurodiversity in entrepreneurial teams
- Applications of biometric sensors for workplace stress monitoring
- Racial equity in career development
- AI ethics in business empathy systems
Dr Thomas has contributed to BBC broadcasts including Radio 4 Newsnight and Woman's Hour, and previously served as Head of Research at the Institute of Student Employers. She teaches organizational psychology modules focusing on team dynamics and psychometric assessments, and is actively involved in PhD supervision with current supervisees researching workplace loneliness and age-related emotion regulation.
Her recent work explores how reproductive health impacts workplace identity, using epidemiological methods to study wellbeing correlations. She has pioneered the use of wearable technology to measure real-time affective states in professional settings.
