Nicola Decaro is a Full Professor in the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bari, Italy. He serves as Director of the Department of Veterinary Medicine (since 2021) and previously as Deputy Director for research (2015–2021).
His research focuses on
- viral pathogens of domestic animals with economic impact on livestock
- zoonotic viruses (Leishmania, coronaviruses, parvoviruses)
- development of molecular diagnostics and vaccines
- antiviral therapy research
Teaching activities include
- Viral Infectious Diseases in Veterinary Medicine Master’s program (since 2012)
- Infectious Diseases of Carnivores in Specialization School
- Animal Health and Zoonoses in PhD program
Scientific leadership
- Editorial roles in Acta Tropica, Journal of Virological Methods, Virus Genes, and Heliyon
- Member of European College of Veterinary Microbiology Executive Committee (since 2014)
- President of Italian Association of Veterinary Infectologists (ANIV, 2018–2022)
