Judith van den Brand is an Associate Professor at Utrecht University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Biomolecular Health Sciences, and director of the Dutch Wildlife Health Centre. She specializes in veterinary pathology and virology, focusing on zoonotic viral diseases including Usutu virus, West Nile virus, coronaviruses, and influenza viruses.

Her research explores viral pathogenesis in wildlife and domestic animals, co-infections' impact on disease outcomes, and vaccine/antiviral development. Current projects include the NWA-ORC One Health PACT initiative on climate impacts on arbovirus emergence, and collaborations on SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and RSV vaccine research.
Recent publications analyze Usutu virus in avian species, HPAI H5N1 in wild carnivores, and cross-species transmission mechanisms. Awards include the Stimuleringsbeurs (2023) and Peer Zwart Fonds (2024) for her zoonotic disease research.
She actively contributes to veterinary education, curriculum development, and scientific conference organization. Professional roles include ECVP exam committee (2014-2020), NVVP secretary, and DSWH president.
