Nicola Clementi

Nicola Clementi is an Associate Professor of Medical Microbiology and Virology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University's School of Medicine in Milan, Italy. He has held academic positions since 2011, progressing from Adjunct Professor to his current role as Associate Professor since 2024. He also serves as a Microbiology and Virology Specialist at IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital.

His educational background includes a Master's Degree in Biological Sciences with biotechnology focus from the Polytechnic University of Marche (2006) and specialization in Medical Microbiology and Virology from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University (2010).

Clementi's research primarily focuses on the molecular dissection of human antibody responses against viruses including HCV, HIV, influenza, and herpesviruses. His work involves constructing phagemid antibody libraries, cloning human monoclonal antibodies, and characterizing protective epitopes for vaccine development. Since 2016, he has also studied drug resistance in hepatitis C patients treated with direct-acting antivirals and implemented NGS-based SARS-CoV-2 whole genome sequencing for diagnostic purposes.

His publication record shows consistent output in virology, microbiology, and infectious diseases, with recent work focusing on SARS-CoV-2 variants, Mpox outbreaks, antimicrobial resistance, and the intersection of microbiome with disease progression. His research demonstrates a strong trend toward molecular diagnostics, viral evolution, and therapeutic antibody development.

His scientific awards include the prestigious LURIA AWARD 2017 from the Italian Society for Virology.
