BURIONI ROBERTO

Roberto Burioni is a Full Professor of Microbiology and Virology at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Università Vita Salute San Raffaele in Milan. His academic career includes roles as Director of the School of Specialization in Microbiology and Virology since 2010 and teaching responsibilities in multiple medical programs. He holds a PhD in Microbiological and Virological Sciences from the University of Genoa and has conducted postdoctoral research at institutions like the Scripps Research Institute and the CDC in the U.S.

Education: Graduated in Medicine and Surgery from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (1987), followed by a PhD and extensive international training in microbiology and immunology. His research focuses on viral pathogenesis, emerging pathogens, and public health responses to pandemics, particularly SARS-CoV-2 and influenza. He has authored over 160 publications and contributed to molecular medicine and vaccine development.

Research interests include viral evolution, immune response mechanisms, and translational applications in clinical settings.
