Nicola Blake is a Design Fellow and Teaching Professor at the University of Cambridge's Department of Architecture. She teaches Year 2 Studio 6, focusing on adaptive reuse of existing buildings and sustainable urban density strategies. Her professional work at 5th Studio involves decarbonisation projects, including a river-water renewable energy center for Darwin College Cambridge and a net-zero masterplan for St Hugh’s College Oxford. She also designs retrofit solutions for industrial sites like a hairbrush factory in Essex.
Education: Bachelor's from the University of Cambridge, Part II from London Metropolitan University, and qualified as an architect from the University of Westminster in 2020. Prior roles include work at David Kohn Architects on university quads, residential retrofits, and market halls in Birmingham.
Research interests emphasize sustainable architecture, energy efficiency, and minimizing embodied carbon through adaptive reuse. Her practice combines community engagement and co-design in urban regeneration projects.
