Niclas Norrström

Niclas Norrström is a Senior Lecturer in Bioscience at the School of Bioscience, University of Skövde. His academic journey includes a PhD in Ecology (2010) from Lund University and an MSc in Computational Ecology (2003) from the University of Skövde.

Research Interests: Norrström specializes in theoretical and computational ecology, with a focus on honeybee conservation and ecosystem-based fisheries management. His work spans:

• Ecological modeling of honeybee populations
• Marine ecosystem dynamics
• Multi-species fisheries optimization
• Ecosystem services and biodiversity

Recent Research Trends: His publications show a dual focus on pollinator health and marine resource management. Studies on native honeybees (Apis mellifera mellifera) examine local adaptation, winter survival, and gut flora interactions. Fisheries research applies game theory and Bayesian methods to resolve conflicts in maximum sustainable yield calculations.

Projects: Norrström leads the ongoing Honeybee Health After Winter project (2025) and completed the BIstånd initiative (2019-2021) studying Nordic brown bees. He contributed to INTERREG projects and ICES/HELCOM working groups for Baltic Sea ecosystem assessments.
