Nicki Zieber, MS, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at Kansas City University (KCU), focusing on early social cognition development in infants. Her research investigates how infants process faces and bodies as social objects and perceive emotions through facial and bodily expressions.
- NIH Pathway to Independence Grant recipient (2018)
Her work examines the low-level perceptual processes infants use to detect emotional expressions before understanding their meanings, utilizing eye-tracking methodology to analyze attentional biases toward emotional stimuli. She studies connections between rapid emotion detection in 7.5-month-olds and later social outcomes at 18 months, aiming to uncover foundational mechanisms in social development.
Current studies involve brief lab sessions with infants and parents, using rapid facial expression presentations to assess automatic attentional responses. Participation requires infants 7 months old or younger for a 30-minute appointment.
