Professor Nick Ritchie is a faculty member in the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of York. His research focuses on international security, particularly nuclear disarmament, proliferation, arms control, and UK/US national security policies. He holds a PhD from the University of Bradford (2007) and previously worked at the Oxford Research Group and Bradford’s Peace Studies Department. His work examines the global politics of nuclear weapons, including the 2017 Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and the UK’s Trident replacement programme. He has been funded by the ESRC, Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, and Nuclear Education Trust.

- Nuclear weapons policy and disarmament movements
- UK nuclear weapons programme (Trident replacement)
- Global security frameworks and non-proliferation

- Current PhD students focus on Russian strategic culture, Turkish foreign policy, landmine impacts, and UK counter-terrorism strategies
