Nick Nesbitt is a Professor of French and Italian at Princeton University, specializing in Marxist theory, Caribbean history, and postcolonial studies. His research interrogates the intersections of capitalism, slavery, and revolutionary thought, particularly through the lens of Marx and Caribbean intellectuals like Aimé Césaire and CLR James. His seminal work The Price of Slavery: Capitalism and Revolution in the Caribbean (2022) re-examines the theoretical foundations of capitalist slavery using Marxian analysis.
His scholarly interests extend to the works of Spinoza, Althusser, and Deleuze, exploring their contributions to critical theory and ideological critique. Nesbitt’s recent projects include analyses of Louis Althusser’s students and their engagement with Spinoza’s philosophy, alongside investigations into the Haitian Revolution’s global significance.
Nesbitt emphasizes the urgency of rigorous theoretical frameworks to address contemporary social and political crises, advocating for a synthesis of historical materialism and radical critique. His publications span over two decades, reflecting a commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship that bridges literature, philosophy, and political economy.
