Helen C. Scott is a Professor of English at the University of Vermont, holding dual roles as Director of the Buckham Overseas Study Program and Director of Graduate Studies in the English Department. She specializes in global Anglophone literature with particular focus on postcolonial studies, Caribbean literature, and Marxist theory. Her research integrates materialist analysis with postcolonial critique, examining works like The Tempest through capitalist frameworks and exploring Rosa Luxemburg's theoretical contributions.
Education: BA from University of Essex, PhD from Brown University (1996). Teaching includes courses on post-colonial literature, immigrant writers, and Edward Said's theories. Her research has been published in Callaloo, Journal of Haitian Studies, and other journals. Key publications include Caribbean Women Writers and Globalization (2006) and The Storm of History: Shakespeare’s Tempest and Capitalism (2019). She currently edits the Complete Works of Rosa Luxemburg.
Awards include the 2015 Graduate Student Senate Teaching Award and multiple international travel grants. Her academic leadership includes directing study abroad programs and graduate curriculum development. Research interests intersect literary analysis with political economy, emphasizing transnational narratives and anti-imperialist thought.
