Nick Mahony is a Research Fellow at The Open University's Faculty of Social Sciences, affiliated with the Centre for Citizenship, Identities and Governance (CCIG). He served as a co-investigator on the RCUK-funded PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT WITH RESEARCH (PER) CATALYST project (2012-2015), coordinating the work of a Research Associate, mentoring public engagement initiatives, contributing to career development programs, and translating insights from the Creating Publics project into the Catalyst framework. His research focuses on the formation of contemporary publics, emerging participatory/democratic practices, and the politics of mediation in social science research.
- Co-investigator on ESRC-funded Making publics across time and space grant
- Co-organizer of the 2008-2010 ESRC Seminar Series Emergent Publics
- Contributor to Segmenting Publics report (NCCPE/ESRC)
- Developed the Experimental Democracy Console web archive (2009-2010)
He has organized international workshops such as Creating publics, creating democracies (2012) and maintains a strong commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration through organizations like the ESRC's peer review college and the Leverhulme-funded Making Science Public advisory board.
