معرفی
Nick Hawkins is a Research Assistant at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford, with over 25 years of specialized experience in materials characterization. He manages the department's Materials Characterization Laboratory, which supports DPhil students, postdoctoral researchers, and external clients through advanced analytical services in Thermal Analysis and Rheology, while also maintaining expertise in Fretting fatigue of metals and Digital Image Correlation (DIC) for precision strain measurement.
Education:
- BSc
His research concentrates on thermal and rheological characterization across diverse material systems:
- Bio materials for medical applications
- Elastomers in aerospace contexts (notably rocket propellant encasement via the Falcon project)
- Polymers, pharmaceuticals, and foodstuffs requiring precise material property analysis
He actively investigates Fretting fatigue mechanisms in metallic components, applying DIC and Acoustic Emission techniques through the CEMTEC project to address aircraft component durability challenges.
Hawkins operates within the Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics research group, leading laboratory operations while advancing collaborative projects with direct aerospace engineering applications through the Falcon initiative and multi-disciplinary CEMTEC consortium.
