Bruno Berthel is a Lecturer at École Centrale de Lyon, affiliated with the Laboratory of Tribology and Dynamics of Systems (LTDS - UMR5513) under the "Tribology, Physico-chemistry and Dynamics of Interfaces" (TPCDI) team. He co-leads the "Tribology and Fatigue of Materials" (TFM) research group and serves as an elected member of the STMS departmental council.
- Research focus: Material behavior, fatigue, fretting, and tribology
- Teaching: Materials Science, Mechanics, and Tribology for General Engineer and Master's programs
- Expertise: Fracture/Fatigue Mechanics, Polymer Matrix Composites, and field measurement techniques
His work integrates experimental and numerical approaches to study metallic and composite material degradation under stress gradients, fretting fatigue, and thermal fatigue. He has advanced methodologies using infrared thermography and quantitative kinematic/thermal field measurements.
Recent publications highlight his contributions to fatigue limit analysis of additive-manufactured alloys, critical distance method stability for fretting cracking, and thermal behavior characterization of automotive composites. Co-authorships include collaborations with researchers from institutions like Polytech'Montpellier and STMS.
Bruno Berthel's research informs both academic and industrial applications in aeronautics, energy, and transport sectors. His teaching spans courses on material safety, composite mechanics, and tribology principles.
