Dr. Nick Axford is an Associate Professor in Health Services at the Peninsula Medical School, University of Plymouth. His research focuses on child health, implementation science, and evidence-based prevention strategies to improve child well-being. He joined Plymouth in 2017 after working at Dartington Social Research Unit, an independent charity focused on children's services. He holds roles on external bodies, including the European Society for Prevention Research Board and the What Works Centre for Children's Social Care Evidence Panel.
His expertise aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being. Key research interests include evaluating intervention effectiveness, improving access to healthcare for vulnerable children, and co-production methods in health research. He has led/co-investigated projects like the Borrow Foundation-funded study on dental care for children in care. His 147+ publications span peer-reviewed articles and commissioned reports, emphasizing systematic reviews and implementation strategies.
