Nicholas Warner is a Professor of Physics and Astronomy and Mathematics at the University of Southern California (USC), where he has held tenure-track positions since 1990. He also served as a Professor of Physics at MIT from 1990 to 1993 and has held visiting roles at institutions like CERN and the Institute for Theoretical Physics in Saclay, France. His academic journey includes a Sc.D. from the University of Cambridge (2008), a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge (1982), and a B.S. from the Australian National University (1978). He has conducted postdoctoral research at Trinity College, Cambridge, and Caltech.
His research focuses on string theory, field theory, and their applications to particle physics and black hole structure. Notably, he explores quantum aspects of black holes, including their singularities and microstate geometries. His work has been supported by significant grants, including a €2.9 million European Research Council Advanced Grant (2019–2023). He has organized conferences on black-hole microstructure and contributed to media projects like the documentary *AWE*.
Warner has received multiple awards, including the Simons Fellowship (2013) and USC teaching awards. He has authored over 200 publications, including seminal works on microstate geometries and black hole entropy. His service roles include leadership in USC committees and editorial boards for journals like *Advances in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics*.
