معرفی
Dr. Nicholas Shenker is a Consultant Rheumatologist at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with academic affiliation through the University of Cambridge's School of Clinical Medicine, Department of Medicine. He serves as Chair of the CRPS-UK Registry and Lead of Digital Technology for the Pain Stream of the NIHR Musculoskeletal Translational Research Collaboration (MSK TRC), in addition to leading the Community MSK service.
Dr. Shenker's research focuses on Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) and chronic pain mechanisms, with particular interest in neurocognitive processing abnormalities, genetic factors, and innovative management approaches. His work bridges clinical rheumatology with neuroscience, examining how pain conditions alter sensory processing and decision-making. He has published extensively on CRPS pathophysiology, including investigations of autoantibodies, tactile-spatial prediction deficits, and brain network changes in chronic pain.
His publication record shows consistent research output from 2005 to 2025, with recent work exploring virtual reality interventions for fibromyalgia, genetic factors in CRPS, and neural sensitivity to punishments in chronic pain. His research demonstrates an evolving trajectory from clinical observations to mechanistic investigations and innovative therapeutic approaches.
Dr. Shenker has received recognition through his leadership roles in national pain research initiatives, particularly through the CRPS-UK Registry which represents a significant contribution to advancing understanding of this challenging condition.
With medical training at Cambridge and Oxford universities followed by a PhD in basic pain mechanisms at the University of Bath, Dr. Shenker joined Cambridge University Hospitals in 2007. He served as specialty lead for a decade, growing the department into the largest rheumatology service in the East of England. His clinical expertise spans all rheumatological conditions with a special interest in chronic pain management.
