Associate Professor Nicholas Mangan is an academic artist and researcher affiliated with Monash University’s Department of Fine Art. His work interrogates intersections between culture and nature through material investigations of contested sites like tropical mines, strip-mined islands, and geological samples. He holds the title of Associate Professor and supervises graduate research. Mangan’s practice has been exhibited globally, including solo shows at LABOR (Mexico City), Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, and group exhibitions at MoMA Warsaw, Singapore’s NTU Centre for Contemporary Art, and the 11th Gwangju Biennale.

Mangan’s research focuses on Termite Economies, exploring labor, consumption, and ecological crises through biological systems metaphors. His Limits to Growth series critiques capitalist resource extraction using interdisciplinary approaches. Recent works address coral reef decline and posthumanist frameworks.
As a Monash Art Projects supervisor, he leads initiatives like Progress in Action, reimagining historical processes. His career includes residencies at Recollets (Paris) and Australia Council’s Green Street (NYC).
