Nicholas Kingwell is a part-time Lecturer in Medieval History at the University of Southampton and has also taught at the University of Winchester. His academic career spans institutions including the West London Institute of Higher Education and Brunel University, where he focused on medieval British and European history.

Research Interests: Nicholas specializes in the Wars of the Roses, examining their impact on political society in south-western England under Edward IV and Richard III. His work also explores the social, cultural, and economic dynamics of the late medieval English gentry, particularly through the lens of the Arundell family of Lanherne (Cornwall). This includes analyzing loyalty, service, financial consequences of political alliances, and the role of aristocratic women in 15th-century English political life.
Teaching: His teaching covers the later Middle Ages, including modules on the Wars of the Roses, the Apocalyptic Fourteenth Century (famine, plague, war, revolts), the First Crusade, and medieval England's social/economic history. He supervises undergraduate dissertations on medieval topics and contributes to MA-level medieval studies.
Biography: A lifelong enthusiast of medieval history, Nicholas earned his academic credentials at University College London and has lectured at multiple institutions since the early 2000s. Beyond academia, he undertakes freelance research commissions, including work for the Duchy of Cornwall and the History of Parliament Trust.
