Nicholas Huelster is a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Literatures in English at Cornell University, where he earned his PhD in French Literature. He holds an undergraduate degree from Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota, with studies in French and Francophone Studies, Humanities, Media and Cultural Studies, and Critical Theory. He also studied at the Centre Parisien d'Études Critiques and the Collège International de Philosophie in Paris.
His research focuses on 'Skeptical Poiesis: Montaigne, Rimbaud,' exploring the continuity of Pyrrhonian skepticism between Montaigne's essays and Rimbaud's poetry, extending into 19th-century French literature and contemporary contexts. He integrates creative writing practice into his pedagogy, teaching French literature, language courses, and First-Year Writing Seminars like 'French Film: 1895 to the Present' and 'Short Stories: Apocryphal Cycles.'
As a creative writer himself, he develops an 'apocryphal cycle' of fictional towns in his writing while mentoring students' academic and creative work.
