Professor Nicholas Green is affiliated with Jesus College, University of Oxford, holding roles such as Departmental Lectureship in Physical Chemistry and former Associate Head of the Department of Chemistry. He completed a BA (1976-1980) and DPhil (1980-1983) in Chemistry at Jesus College Oxford. His research focuses on stochastic processes in chemical kinetics, radiation chemistry, and unimolecular reactions. He has held positions including Reader at King’s College London (1992-2006) and Tutorial Fellow at Magdalen College Oxford (1987-1991).
His work emphasizes theoretical and computational models for understanding reaction dynamics in systems with small particle numbers, such as radiation-induced spurs. Key areas include diffusion-controlled recombination, spin correlations in radicals, and kinetic analysis of unimolecular reactions. He developed the stochastic IRT method widely used in radiation chemistry studies.
Professor Green’s teaching spans physical and theoretical chemistry. Partial retirement began in 2023, though he remains involved as a Teaching Advisor. His research integrates interdisciplinary methods across physics, chemistry, and computational science.
