Nicholas Evans serves as a Consultant in Stroke Medicine and Consultant Lecturer within the Neurology Unit of the University of Cambridge's School of Clinical Medicine. He holds dual college appointments as a Governing Body Fellow and Director of Studies in Pre-Clinical Medicine at Wolfson College, where he coordinates examinations and serves on the Faculty Board.
He holds a Master's in Medical Education and directs the Wellcome Trust/Academy of Medical Sciences-funded INSPIRE scheme promoting student research skills. His primary research investigates cerebrovascular disease through two interconnected strands: advanced PET/MRI imaging of atherosclerosis to identify high-risk plaques and vascular inflammation links to vascular dementia, and clinical frailty's impact on stroke outcomes and vascular ageing. He also pioneers medical education research including simulation-based training and assessment metrics.
His 2024-2025 publications reveal three dominant research trajectories: frailty assessment standardization across global stroke care, machine learning applications in carotid artery radiomics for predicting stroke risk, and molecular imaging biomarkers for plaque vulnerability. This work bridges vascular biology, clinical neurology, and geriatric medicine through advanced imaging and AI methodologies.
