معرفی
Gert Jan de Borst is a Full Professor at the University Medical Center Utrecht, affiliated with the Regenerative Medicine & Stem Cells and Circulatory Health strategic programs. He serves as a vascular surgeon and leads research on image-guided interventions, medical devices, and pharmaceutical strategies to combat atherosclerosis and aneurysms.
Research Focus: His work centers on improving outcomes for patients with circulatory diseases through:
- Development of image-guided vascular interventions
- Inflammation-targeted pharmaceutical therapies
- Medical device validation for atherosclerosis treatment
- Molecular characterization of vascular pathologies
- Population-based risk modeling for carotid stenosis
- Multicenter clinical trials on vascular outcomes
Scientific Contributions: Recent publications focus on plaque hemorrhage quantification using AI, silent brain ischemia detection, calcium scoring system validation, and sex differences in carotid intervention outcomes. These works span atherosclerosis, stroke prevention, and advanced medical imaging disciplines.
Awards:
- NVVG-MSD prijs 2013
- FP7 Health Grant
Collaborative Network: Actively collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across Europe on vascular surgery research, with recent projects involving France, Finland, and the Netherlands. His work bridges clinical vascular surgery with translational research in regenerative medicine.
