معرفی
Nicholas Deutscher is an Associate Professor in Atmospheric Science at the University of Wollongong (UOW), affiliated with the School of Earth, Atmospheric and Life Sciences (SEALS). He holds expertise in measuring and modeling atmospheric greenhouse gases, with a focus on methane and carbon dioxide emissions. His research integrates remote sensing techniques, inverse modeling, and satellite data analysis to understand climate impacts and improve emission quantification.
Deutscher earned his PhD (2010) and dual bachelor's degrees (BMath and BSc Honours, 2003) from UOW. He has held roles including ARC DECRA Fellow (2014–2017) and ARC Future Fellow (2018–2022). His work spans collaborations with institutions like the University of Bremen and NASA, and he leads projects funded by the Australian Research Council, SmartSAT CRC, and the NSW Environmental Trust.
Research interests include greenhouse gas monitoring, emission detection (e.g., coal mines, wildfires), and atmospheric chemistry. He supervises PhD students on topics like methane emissions from coalfields and carbon cycle dynamics in Australia. Notable awards include his ARC Fellowships and contributions to TCCON (Total Carbon Column Observing Network) data standardization.
His funding includes grants for projects such as RUGGED (Regional Greenhouse Gas Emission Detection) and satellite-based monitoring initiatives. He collaborates internationally on instruments like the EM27/SUN FTIR spectrometer and participates in global networks like COCCON (Collaborative Carbon Column Observing Network).
