Nicholas Crisp

Nicholas Crisp serves as a Lecturer in Aerospace Systems within the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at The University of Manchester. His research directly contributes to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through innovations in sustainable space operations and orbital aerodynamics. He leads critical work on Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) technologies and Atmosphere-Breathing Electric Propulsion (ABEP) systems.

His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Aerospace Engineering (2012) and a PhD in Aerospace Engineering (2016), both from The University of Manchester. These qualifications underpin his expertise in spacecraft design and orbital mechanics.

Dr. Crisp's research spans Space Systems Engineering, Orbital Aerodynamics, Low Earth Orbit operations, Electric Propulsion, and Space Sustainability. His work addresses fundamental challenges in VLEO satellite operations including aerodynamic drag reduction, propulsion integration, and spacecraft longevity. He actively investigates the environmental impact of satellite constellations on astronomical observations and develops life cycle assessment frameworks for space systems.
