Dr. Nicholas Blagden is an Associate Professor in Forensic Psychology at Nottingham Trent University and the Associate Head of the Sexual Offences Crime and Misconduct Research Unit (SOCAMRU). He specializes in impactful research addressing sexual offending prevention, rehabilitation, and reintegration. His work influences national/international policy and collaborates with institutions like HMPPS, Ministry of Justice, and Corrective Services Australia. He teaches on the MSc Forensic Psychology program, focusing on mixed methods, policing, and justice system psychology.
Research interests include the prevention of sexual offending, barriers to reintegration, voyeurism, desistance via peer support, prison circles of support, and intrafamilial offending. He leads SOCAMRU’s projects, emphasizing practical Criminal Justice System applications. Dr. Blagden co-founded the Safer Living Foundation (SLF), a multi-award-winning charity running initiatives like Circles of Support and Accountability (CoSA), the Aurora Project, and the Corbett Centre for Prisoner Reintegration, achieving zero sexual reconvictions among participants.
External collaborations include Corrective Services Australia, Institute of Mental Health (Ottawa), and NOTA’s Policy committee. His career spans 15+ years in criminal justice, including roles in probation, prison settings, and police training. He previously led the MSc Forensic Psychology program at NTU and held lectureships at the University of Huddersfield and University of Lincoln.
