Prof. Nicholas Bishop is a faculty member at the Department of Medical Engineering, Hamburg University of Applied Sciences since March 2014. He previously worked at the AO Research Institute in Davos, Switzerland for a decade and collaborated with TU Hamburg-Harburg for his doctoral research.
His research focuses on biomechanics, particularly in implant mechanics, joint replacement, and preclinical testing. He has extensively studied modular hip prostheses, taper junctions, cement-bone interfaces, and metal-on-metal bearings. His work explores fracture healing mechanics, implant fixation strength, and biomedical wear analysis.
His recent publications from 2013-2022 examine topics like femoral stem impaction, taper corrosion, ceramic bearing squeaking, and biomechanical load distribution. These studies span disciplines including orthopedic surgery, biomedical engineering, and material science.
