Nicholas Argyres is the Vernon W. & Marion K. Piper Professor of Strategy at the Olin Business School, Washington University in St. Louis, where he joined in 2008. He has served as Chair of the Strategy Division of the Academy of Management and as Associate Dean of Faculty for Olin School. He holds a Ph.D. in 1993 from the University of California, Berkeley.
His research focuses on strategy and structure, including vertical integration, contracting, inter-organizational arrangements, internal organization design, and industry evolution. His recent work examines strategic responses to innovation shocks in industries like video games and airlines.
Argyres currently serves as Academic Director of the EMBA St. Louis Program since 2018 and is an Associate Editor of the Strategic Management Journal. His contributions bridge theoretical strategy frameworks with practical organizational challenges.
Outside academia, he enjoys tennis, music, and travel.
