Niamh Moloney

Professor Niamh Moloney is a Professor of Law at the LSE Law School, part of the London School of Economics and Political Science. She specializes in EU financial markets regulation and holds roles such as External Member of the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Committee and previously served as an independent non-executive director of the Central Bank of Ireland. Her expertise extends to consumer financial protection, taxation, and welfare policy.

She is educated at Trinity College Dublin and Harvard Law School. Her research focuses on EU financial regulation, including the regulatory frameworks for securities markets and post-financial crisis reforms. Key publications include EU Securities and Financial Markets Regulation (4th ed., 2023) and The Age of ESMA (2018).

Professor Moloney is an award-winning academic, recognized as a Fellow of the British Academy and Honorary Member of the Royal Irish Academy. She contributes to policy through roles such as Chair of Ireland’s Commission on Taxation and Welfare (2021–2022) and as a Special Adviser to the UK Parliament’s House of Lords EU Select Committee (2014–2015). She also holds editorial roles in journals like the European Law Review and serves on the LSE Council.

Her professional activities include membership in the Stakeholder Group of the European Securities and Markets Authority and service on the Board of Appeal of the European Supervisory Authorities. Her work bridges academia and policy, influencing financial regulation across Europe.
