Dr. Niamh Cullen is a Senior Lecturer in Modern European History at Queen's University Belfast, affiliated with the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics. Her research focuses on twentieth-century Italy, gender and sexuality, the history of emotions, and motherhood. She is particularly known for her work on the Italian Economic Miracle and breastfeeding history. She holds positions in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and contributes to the Centre for Public History. Dr. Cullen has authored books and peer-reviewed articles, including a monograph on love and jealousy in post-war Italy (OUP, 2019) and comparative studies on childcare practices. Her recent projects explore breastfeeding in post-1945 Europe and emotions in family contexts. She has received awards such as the Hubert Butler Essay Prize and contributes to academic networks through conferences and workshops. Dr. Cullen supervises PhD students in Italian history and related fields, and her work bridges social, cultural, and gender history.
