Neşe Devenot (they/them) is a Senior Lecturer in the University Writing Program at Johns Hopkins University, joining in 2023. Their interdisciplinary work spans psychedelic studies, bioethics, and literary theory, focusing on societal implications of drug use and ethical frameworks for consciousness research.
Dr. Devenot holds a BA in Philosophy and Literature from Bard College and MA/PhD in Comparative Literature & Literary Theory from the University of Pennsylvania, where they received the Penn Prize for Excellence in Teaching. Postdoctoral training included fellowships at the University of Cincinnati’s Institute for Research in Sensing, Case Western Reserve University’s Department of Bioethics, and University of Puget Sound’s Humanities Program.
Research centers on psychedelic science’s literary history, drug policy ethics, and public humanities engagement. They investigate cultural narratives of psychoactive substances while advocating for evidence-based harm reduction through nonprofit work and media commentary.

Collaborations with JHU’s Center for Psychedelic & Consciousness Research and features in NPR, The New York Times, and Rolling Stone demonstrate broad impact beyond academia.
