Nergis Canefe is Professor of Politics at York University, with cross-appointments to the Center for Refugee Studies and Osgoode Hall Law School. Her research examines forced migration, state criminality, and transitional justice through decolonial and human rights frameworks.
Her fieldwork encompasses displaced communities across multiple continents, analyzing legacies of mass violence and mechanisms for accountability. Recent scholarship addresses cultural erasure of minority heritage, decolonial approaches to migration studies, and limitations of universal jurisdiction principles.
Professor Canefe contributes to policy discussions as an expert witness on refugee rights and develops critical methodologies for studying displacement in postcolonial contexts. Her work challenges conventional boundaries of international law and political theory.
