Neoshia R. Roemer is an Associate Professor of Law at Seton Hall University School of Law, specializing in Federal Indian Law, Family Law, and Child Welfare Law. She teaches contract law, family law, estate law, and federal Indian law. Prior roles include Fellow and Staff Attorney at the Indigenous Law & Policy Center (Michigan State University College of Law) and faculty at the University of Idaho College of Law. She has contributed to national legal networks, including the American Indian Law Center’s Pre-Law Summer Institute and the Lutie A. Lytle Black Women Law Faculty Writing Workshop.
Education includes a JD and Law & Indigenous Peoples Certificate from the University of New Mexico School of Law (2017), an MA in Latin American Studies with a focus on reproductive justice in Central America’s indigenous communities, and a BA in History and International Studies from IUPUI (2013). She is fluent in K’iche’ Maya, supported by a FLAS Scholarship.
Her research focuses on the Indian Child Welfare Act, domestic violence, and poverty issues. She has published in the Boston University Law Review and appeared on NPR’s 1A. Awards include the FLAS Scholarship and Ronald E. McNair Scholar designation. She mentors law students and has coached moot court teams.
