Nelson Lim is the Director of the Workforce, Development, and Health Program at RAND Project AIR FORCE and a Professor of Policy Analysis at the RAND School of Public Policy. He advises senior U.S. Air Force and Space Force leaders on personnel policies and oversees HRM projects for clients including the Department of Defense and U.S. Secret Service. His research focuses on integrating AI/ML into HRM, addressing workforce diversity, and mitigating biases in technology-driven talent management. Lim earned his Ph.D. and M.A. in sociology from UCLA.
Education: Ph.D. and M.A. in Sociology from UCLA.
Research Interests: Machine Learning and AI in HRM, military workforce diversity, organizational behavior, and policy evaluation. Lim explores barriers such as data quality and algorithmic bias in technology-enabled HR practices, proposing solutions to enhance equitable talent management.
Advising and Grants: Lim's work has influenced Air Force HR strategies, including skill gap analyses and promotion policies for the U.S. Space Force. He collaborates with cities like Los Angeles on firefighter recruitment.
