Nelson B. Schiller

Nelson B. Schiller is a Professor of Cardiology at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and a pioneer in echocardiography. He founded the UCSF Echocardiography Laboratory and the UCSF Adult Congenital Heart Disease Clinic. His clinical expertise includes structural heart disease (mitral/aortic valve disorders, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy), transesophageal echocardiography, and myocardial contrast perfusion.

Schiller's research focuses on cardiac function quantitation, left atrial biology, exercise hemodynamics, body composition in heart disease, adult congenital heart disease, and three-dimensional echocardiography. Recent publications include studies on immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced fatigue, arrhythmic risk in mitral valve prolapse, and stress echocardiography applications. He has received accolades such as The Best Doctors in America (1997-1999) and the UCSF Clinical Cardiology Fellows Award for Outstanding Teacher.
